SILOS & SMOKESTACK HOSTING COLORING CONTEST FOR KIDS

Silos & Smokestacks National Heritage Area (SSNHA) is hosting a coloring contest for kids up to age 12. The coloring contest, in conjunction with Silos & Smokestacks 25th Anniversary, celebrates agriculture heritage, the agriculture industry and sites and attractions throughout the heritage area.Contestants can choose from eight different agriculture coloring sheets.

Shellsburg Area Community Group Fund Raiser

The Shellsburg Area Community Group (SACG) is having its annual fundraiser this Saturday, June 19th, at Wildcat Golf Course and it’s an important opportunity for the group to raise money for community projects. This non-profit group has invested over $80,000 in community projects and services since forming in 2011, including several that benefited the school.

Craft Fair at VFW #8884 June 11

The VFW Auxiliary Post #8884 will be holding a Craft Fair the 2nd Weekend in June. The Craft Fair will be open on Friday, June 11 from 12:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and on Saturday, June 12 from 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.The VFW Post 8884 and Auxiliary will be grilling sandwiches on the grounds both days.The Post is located at 5999 25th Avenue Trail, Vinton.

Vinton Depot Farmers Market to take place Thursday nights during June

There will be a Vinton Depot Farmers Market happening for the month of June. Starting next week on Thursday evenings beginning at 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. The Farmers Market will be held at the Train Depot in Vinton. Simply bring your $5 fee on the night of the event if you need a spot to display your goods.

Historic Preservation Commission to host Flea Market in Shellsburg June 12

The Historic Preservation Commission will host their 1st Annual Flea Market this Saturday, June 12th at the Shellsburg City Park from 7am to 3pm. It will feature every facet of a traditional flea market. As an added bonus, the Beast and Bird, a local food truck, will also be at the park, serving lunch from 11am to 2pm. “There will be something here for everyone” comments Edwon Yedlik, a Benton County Preservation Commissioner.

KICK OFF THE BENTON COUNTY FAIR WITH 4-H NIGHT AT THE GRANDSTAND

This year, the Benton County Fair will kick off with an exciting event – 4-H Night at the Grandstand. The entire community is invited to the Benton County Fairgrounds on Wednesday, June 23 from 6-8:30 p.m. After a ceremonial start with the American Legion Color Guard presenting the flags in an inspiring tribute, enjoy the talented youth of Benton County at the 4-H Share the Fun Talent Show.

7th Annual Bags and Baskets silent Auction begins June 14

Chelsea Peoples, PA-C and Dawson Reach Out & Read is a program in Virginia Gay Hospital Family Medical Clinics (Vinton, Atkins, Urbana and Van Horne) that supports early childhood literacy beginning at birth. At each Well-Child appointment, providers at our clinics give a new book to the child helping to ensure that children grow up with books and a love of reading. Providers use books as a tool to assess development and milestones.
